Angela Evelyn Bassett was born in the United States. In the TV and film industry, she's known for her nominations and awards. Bassett grew up in Winston-Salem North Carolina, raised by an Aunt who lived in New York New York. Bassett and her sister, aged five, old, emigrated away from the city of their birth to St. Petersburg to live with the mother of their divorced father. Bassett was at the age of high school when she was able to see James Earl Jones staring John Steinbeck in the play Of Mice and Men and realized that her desire of being an actor had come true. Yale University New Haven Connecticut granted her a bachelor's degree (1980), in African American study, and an advanced degree (1983) in the Yale School of Drama. Courtney B. Vance met her at Yale, and in 1997 they got married.
